I told the pdoc that even though paxil works great for me, I can't stand the weight gain that came with it. To date I've gained over 30 pounds in the last 6 months. I cant stand to even look at myself in the mirror. I was already over weight before the paxil and now the med has me looking like a water ballon thats ready to pop.
He agreed that we can start the withdraw from paxil and then see what happens. He knows I'll still need some sort of antidepressant, but will cross that bridge in 4 weeks.
For now I'm to cut my dosage in half each week for the next three weeks then quit it altogether. My guess is that I'll end up on Wellbutrin or something similar that doesn't have weight gain associated with it.

I gained about 50 lbs. from zoloft and then effexor. I lost all of it and more after going on wellbutrin. My family thought I had an eating disorder. I was diagnosed bipolar 15 years ago and have just recently been diagnosed with adult ADD. Still dont' know if I have both or if it was a misdiagnosis in the beginning. My doctor weaned me off the effexor at the same time he added the wellbutrin so there wouldn't be a gap in the total antidepressent level. Is that a possiblity for you?
As an effective medicine, paxil would surely provide you immense relief if you are in the grip of panic disorder, depression or generalized anxiety disorder but it is altogether true that the usage of Paxil occasionally facilitates certain side-effects such as headache, low blood pressure, irregular heartbeat et al. These side-effects can yield serious results if not treated immediately hence take this medicine only on proper prescription.
